A little about me...

Business Headshot .jpg

I'm Kathryn Wright

and I am a child mental

health counselor in the Tampa area. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Registered Play Therapist, and I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Saint Leo University. My specialty is child-centered play therapy, child-parent relationship therapy, and instinctual trauma response therapy.  I am passionate about working with children and families to help them become their best selves.

At Wright Therapy for Kids, children are provided a safe and calm atmosphere where they feel comfortable to be themselves and play freely without any repercussions or judgment. I work with your children to help them explore their thoughts and emotions through play and teach them to work through their problems at an age-appropriate level. Parent involvement is welcomed, and I encourage frequent and open communication. I also offer parent training if you would like further support, tips, and techniques that can be used at home to build a strong parent-child relationship.

Getting Started

Please contact me to schedule an in-person initial consultation.

Initial consultations are free of charge and allow us to get acquainted and discuss the therapeutic process in more detail. To respect the child and be able to talk free of judgment, consultations are with the significant adults in the child’s life, and I ask that children not be present.

After agreeing on therapeutic interventions, we will move forward to schedule consistent, once a week, sessions. The amount of total sessions required is determined by the individual child’s needs. Termination of services is discussed openly between the therapist and caregivers.

Caregivers are essential in the therapeutic process and I always want to ensure that the caregivers are well informed and equipped with the information and strategies they need to support the child.

I hold your child’s and your family’s confidentiality and therapeutic relationship in a very high regard. I ask that personal information or the child’s struggles are never discussed in front of the child or in the waiting room.  Although we do not discuss information in front of the child, I make it a priority to have frequent adult only consultations to discuss progress and interventions.

How Much do Services Cost?

Please contact me for a free initial parent consultation. Session details, including fees, can be discussed at that time.

Insurance Policy:

Self-Pay Process

Wright Therapy for Kids is a private pay practice.

There are many benefits to the self-pay process:

  • Insurance requires immediate diagnosis after little evaluation is completed. With self-pay, no diagnosis is required, therefore parents have control over what information goes on the child's permanent medical record

  • Parents can opt in or out of further mental health evaluations, and skilled practitioners have the time to complete thorough and accurate reports.

  • Parents have control over what patient health information is shared with other providers and schools.

  • All patient health information is held in more secure confidence and cannot be released to other medical providers without a signed release.

  • There is more flexibility in the location of sessions, time spent during sessions, types of treatments used during sessions, how many sessions are needed, and who is able to join sessions. Self-pay avoids restrictions of insurance billing-codes and insurance treatment denials.

Payment is required at the time of treatment. Cash, checks, credit cards, and some HSAs/FSAs are accepted.

Out-of-Network Reimbursement

Some families may opt into filing for out-of-network reimbursement through their insurance. All insurance policies are different and Wright Therapy for Kids cannot guarantee how much, or if, your insurance will reimburse. Please call your insurance company to obtain details of your coverage. Wright Therapy for Kids is happy to provide a Superbill to the client in order to aid in the submission of out-of-network reimbursement. Clients are responsible for submitting documentation to the insurance company. Full payment is required at time of treatment.

Medicaid and Medicaid Supplemental Plans

Due to being a private-pay practice, I legally am unable to treat children on any Medicaid plans.
Please call your Medicaid provider and the
y can provide a list of approved mental health providers for your policy.

Please contact Wright Therapy for Kids if you have any additional questions regarding self-pay and insurance policies.
